Change A Letter Word Game!!

ok this game can get difficult. sometimes impossible.
heres how you play: i start with a word for example "lore"
the next post changes, adds a letter or removes a letter to form another correctly spelled real word
for example "lore" could be changed to "lord", "ore", or "lores"
then the post after does the same thing using the word that was just created, say i chose "lord" last time. now i can change it to "word"
you can not repeat a word already used.
oh yeah and no double-posting
this continues until you reach a point where the word can't be changed.

the starting word will be simple this time.

another thing to point out: nightengale clock had already been used. pay alittle closer attention.

EDIT: also i think i may have to pick up the scrabble dictionary to use as a rulebook for here. it lists words based on beginnings and endings. i can take the chunk of the word you didn't change and see if the word exists by those standards. so far i have been using my firefox spell check add on. it is pretty well versed.
